A Quick Summary:
Our classes are 6-week progressive series.
Class prices can be found here.
Our upper level classes have an audition process! Fundamentals/Level 1 students may opt to audition for Level 2A after taking one series of Fundamentals. If you take two series of Fundamentals, you may move up to Level 2A without auditioning. There will be no audition process between Levels 2A and 2B, you will just have to complete all of the content available in Level 2A before moving on to Level 2B. Auditions will still be required to move from Level 2B to Level 3. Students who are new to MCS and wish to join an upper level class (i.e., L2A, L2B, or L3) will have to audition regardless.
If you are interested in joining our Fundamentals class, there is no need to sign up ahead of time– just show up!
Fundamentals
The introductory level of classes, intended for beginner west coast swing dancers. Also great for helping refine the basics for those who have been dancing for a while but haven't taken many formal lessons. This progressive course covers basic west coast swing patterns and technique. Students also have ample opportunity for 1:1 feedback.
Time: 8-9pm on Wednesdays
Length: Two 6-week progressive series (12 weeks of instruction)
Students must join in the first week of each series and pay upfront for the entire series. See 1-pager here and a more detailed class syllabus here.
Level 2
Level 2 classes are intended for dancers with a solid grasp of the basics. Level 2 is aimed at leveling up dancers and introducing a wide array of more advanced techniques. It will cover topics such as six-count variations, refining connection, turns and preps, countering in open and closed, rhythm and musicality, and more! Our Level 2 curriculum into two parts: Level 2A and 2B.
Level 2A focuses on building upon Fundamentals such as Connection, Turns, Anchoring, and Rhythm.
Time: 7-8pm on Wednesdays

Level 2B focuses on expanding each dancer's West Coast Swing vocabulary with topics such as Whip Variations, Anchor and Rhythm Variations, Musicality, and more!

For both Level 2A and 2B:

Students should be comfortable with the following basics: left side pass, under-arm turn (right side pass), sugar push, sugar tuck, passing tuck, free spin and whip. Students should also demonstrate proficiency in basic west coast swing technique.
Level 3
Intended for experienced West Coast Swing dancers, Level 3 aims to develop individual dancers into their dance potential with a diverse range of concepts, drills, and applications that will change over time as the class develops. We intend to push dancers outside of their comfort zones and expand their dance.
Time: 7-8pm on Wednesdays
Length: Discrete 6-weeks series
Students must join in the first week of each series and pay upfront for the entire series.
Requires audition to join. There will be rolling auditions for the 2-3 weeks before each series of Level 3 begins.
Students should be very comfortable with the basics and demonstrate proficiency in more advanced connection, pattern-work, musicality, and styling.
Auditions
Fundamentals/Level 1 students may opt to audition for Level 2A after taking one series of Fundamentals. If you take two series of Fundamentals, you may move up to Level 2A without auditioning. There will be no audition process between Levels 2A and 2B, you will just have to complete all of the content available in Level 2A before moving on to Level 2B. Auditions will still be required to move from Level 2B to Level 3. Students who are new to MCS and wish to join an upper level class (i.e., L2A, L2B, or L3) will have to audition regardless.
There are two options for auditioning: 1) you can take a video of you dancing West Coast Swing with a partner (either a social dance or comp video is fine – try and include all the basics if possible) and send it to missioncityswing@gmail.com, or 2) you can audition in person (dates and times vary by series).
